The Dairy Police
I'd like to read this one next. I wonder why they feel the need to enforce laws about raw milk and such? Yes, people get sick from it sometimes. That is what a disclaimer is for, right? I mean, why not sell it if someone wants to buy it and doesn't mind the risks? We sure have some weird laws. They make sense on a large scale, but not on a family farm.

I could see an argument by analogy to drugs, i.e., "like marijuana, the health risks are too great and we need to protect kids who might get these products from well-meaning adults".
ReplyDeleteI personally wouldn't be convinced by this argument for SO many reasons, but I know some people who would (especially some folks working in the pubic school system . . . often they seem to refuse parents' rights to expose their children to very minor risks, even if the parents believe there is a strong benefit). I also think some people just get edgy about food and risk . . . we'll do risky things in our cars like speeding and tailgating without a second thought, but something about normally healthy foods making a few people sick really seems to scare people.
