I did not know this, and I'm so glad to see it. Hooray for caring about women, their babies, and their families!

Turns out there are way more crisis pregnancy centers than there are abortion clinics. That is great news!

After what I'd learned during 40 DFL about abortion centers closing and some states being down to one abortion center, I can't say I'm shocked. I bet the numbers look even better, these days - the number of abortions was from 2000, and I'm pretty sure that's been going downwards.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, but I think the "percentage of pregnancies ending in induced abortion" diagram on the next page was a bit deceptive; I'm pretty sure that they are not including pregnancies that miscarried, since I've worked the numbers for that before (from the CDC data) and abortions are closer to 1/6 pregnancies than 1/4 when including miscarraiges. But then, I guess there's fair debate about which number is more informative; who knows how many miscarraiges would have ended in abortions, after all? The important thing is that the numbers are clearly too high for most people's tolerance of appropriate abortion rates. I think everyone feels that abortion should be a difficult choice for women - not something used for 1/6 or more pregnancies, with many women who choose abortion choosing it more than once.
